CompactFlash

CompactFlash memory cards are compliant with the PCMCIA-Card-ATA-Standards. They contain flash chips, which means they have no moving parts.
This is the reason why they are increasingly used in industry, as mass-storage devices or as a hard-disk replacement (boot-device, in IDE mode)
